Audio-metric testing – different types

Hearing loss may occur due to various reasons, exposure to loud noises for a prolonged time being one of them. When a person finds it difficult to communicate with others or asks them to repeat themselves frequently, it could be time for a hearing test. Audio-metrictesting enables to check the hearing ability of a person.

There are different types of audiometric tests such as pure tone audiometry, whispered speech test and tuning fork tests. Pure tone audiometry involves use of an audiometer which plays different tones of varying intensity and pitch that can be heard through headphones. When it comes to whispered speech test, a health care professional would whisper words.

The volume of the whispers is increased till the time an individual is able to hear them. With a tuning fork, the health care professional would use a tuning fork to assess the vibrations after striking the fork.
